About
Daniela Ministry
Overview
The Daniela Ministry is a charitable organization associated
with Calvary Chapel. The goal of the ministry is to meet the
spiritual and physical needs of the street children and
desperately poor families in the Eastern European country of
Romania.
The Daniela Ministry was established as memorial to Daniela
Bistriceanu, whose life was unexpectedly taken in a tragic
accident. Daniela’s love for Christ was reflected in her love
for her family, friends, and children. It is out of this spirit
of love and service to others that this foundation was
established.
Background
Under communism, the Romanian people were encouraged to have
large families, but after the fall of communism the economy of
Romania became very depressed. Most of the people had been
government employees and were now jobless. They no longer had
the means to support their large families. As more and more
people became homeless, children in great numbers were
abandoned, and to survive, these children found shelter in the
city sewers. Drug addiction, hunger, abuse,
pregnancies, prostitution, disease, theft, and hopelessness grew
along with the underground community of forsaken children.
In Boise, Idaho, Niculina Bistriceanu, a Romanian nurse, and her
husband, George, felt a deep burden for the impoverished
families and deserted children of their native country and
wanted to do something to help them. They had no idea where to
start, but God had a plan in mind. In 1998, using the American
know-how of an energetic Catholic co-worker of Niculina's, Mike
Farruggia, and the growing outreach to Romania of Calvary Chapel
Boise, the Lord put in motion a ministry aimed at giving hope
and help to the lost children and desperate families of Romania
through native Christians working in tandem with American
believers.
Goals
The mission of Daniela Ministry is to meet the spiritual and
physical needs of the street children and desperately poor
families in the country of Romania.
Daniela Ministry, with the help of individual sponsors and
churches in the United States, has been able to distribute food,
warm winter clothes and shoes for many children and coordinate
regular Bible studies and spiritual guidance for these children.
